Jammu: The City Of Power Cuts

The time has changed & many other things have also changed in our state over the years but one problem which existed many years back and is still maintaining the status quo. For maintaining this consistency, an award should be given. This award goes to the PDD department which has been working hard to maintain the same position for many years. This award for consistency can also be shared by all the respective state governments of J&K. If we talk of present times, then the young blood leading the government of J&K i.e. Jenab Omar Abdullah would not be happy to get this award in his tenure as a CM of the state. Since Jenab Omar Abdullah has taken the command of the J&K govt. in his hands many revolutionary things have been done to improve the status and image of our J&K but I think Jenab Omar Abdullah is somewhere forgetting to give importance to the problem of unscheduled power cuts in Jammu. The problem is so severe that it cannot be judged from inside the walls of the secretariat or the official residence of CM.  Jenab Omar Abdullah has to connect to the ground in order to get the actual status of this prevailing problem as he is just being briefed by his ministers of the concerned department as well as Chief Engineers who always present a positive scenario of this electricity problem in Jammu. Putting it in the notice of Jenab Omar Abdullah, there are many areas which are fully metered and people are honest enough to pay their bills on time but what is sad is that these are the areas which face severe & worst problems of power cuts. However what is more interesting is the story of many areas, where people are lucky enough to have continuous supply of power without any power cuts and for this it is not because of their honesty or that their area is fully metered, in contrast it is result of they being neighbor   to some ruling MLA or MP or Cabinet minister’s house. There are other people who reside near CM house at Residency Road, Jammu and enjoy no power cuts even in absence of Jenab Omar Abdullah who these days is residing in official residence at Srinagar. Same is the case of the area of Bathindi where there are no unscheduled power cuts and people are happy to have Jenab Farooq Abdullah to be their locality member getting that area a VIP status.  The people these days prefer not to live in posh colonies of Jammu as these areas also face severe power cuts in fact they are more interested either to live near the house of ruling MLA or MP or cabinet minister’s house.

How will this scenario change as there is nobody who is really interested to solve this problem as those who are in control of getting this problem solved are not worried because they are getting continuous power supply. Neither can this problem be solved by seeing the revenue graphs generated from a particular area and hence in turn giving power to that area because it seems that revenue generating areas are in a way becoming power generating areas and are fulfilling the demand of other areas i.e. area of ruling MLA or MP or Cabinet minister’s house. The other reason for saying that this problem will not be solved was the news which spread when the metering was done in Jammu that all the areas which will be metered will get continuous power supply. At that time, a sense of hope prevailed in people that now they will get relief from the problem of power cuts but all hopes were dashed as time passed with many summers & winters which came and went away but the problem of power cuts stayed.

Till now we just talked of Jammu city but the condition of the areas adjoining Jammu city and rural areas of Jammu is pathetic where what they get is just the feel of electricity and not electricity because there is either no power in these areas or power with a low voltage that people don’t prefer to switch on their any electronic appliances, fearing of them getting damaged. They are getting power cuts ranging from 6 to 10 hours. Just think what is left in the life of people where out of 24 hours there is a cut of 10 hours. It is somewhere that half of their life would be spent without electricity. Poor people cannot even protest or get their problem heard as the rulers or so called leaders are living fortified lives in their secured house’s where the voice of the poor doesn’t reach easily but electricity surely reaches.

We all need to think again over it as it is we who pay revenue to the govt. and it is we only who get deprived of basic facilities. It can also be judged from the case of various ministers’ official residences as well as several departments of the govt. which have outstanding bills to be paid to PDD but still they have continuous power supply. If it would have been a case of an ordinary citizen whose bills have been pending the PDD would have immediately taken some action against the ordinary citizen in order to make their officers happy who are at the helm of affairs. Please Awake Not Because Of Power Cuts But For Speaking Against Power Cuts.
